KB24 to NYK: A Dream, But A Long Shot

With momentum and excitement driving the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA Eastern Conference championship, the Western side of the league ended prematurely with a dud, when the Spurs beat the Jazz (Utah Jazz?!) in just five games. With the focus shifting to the only exciting player left in the playoffs, even Lebron with rookie Boobie by his side and old Big Z’s swagger, couldn’t bring the Cavaliers a mere one victory for the East. Curses to those scrubs that occupy that bench. (I’m talkin’ about Damon Jones, Sasha Pavlovic, Hughes, and that damn tuft of hair you can’t help but cringe at on Gooden’s head).

So obviously the NBA Finals this year were a huge disappointment. But what’s to say that next year will be any different? Or the year after that? With Oden and Durant BOTH heading towards the Western Conference (and in the same division, believe it or not), the talent difference between the West and the East only widens. Which is only going to make for an increasingly more bland NBA Finals finish.

It comes to no surprise that the 2007 NBA Finals hit a record-low television rating.

Conveniently enough, guess who’s trade rumors have surfaced, yet again.

Kobe, continuing his displeasure with the direction of the Lakers, met with Lakers owner Jerry Buss to discuss his demands. And apparently he has a three-team wish list. Guess what one of those team is. Seriously, just guess. If you know me well enough, you have probably already figured where the direction of this basketball-oriented article is going.

The New York Knicks. The East Coast. If Kobe were to be traded to the Knicks, (which is so unlikely that all I can say is, “Hey, I can dream, can’t I?”) I don’t care what it takes, I will find myself courtside in Madison Square Garden before Kobe retires. And with Kobe on the East, that can only help to level the playing field of talent between the two conferences, can’t it? Yes, he’s that good. If Isiah Thomas can pull some strings, work some magic, and bring KB24 to the big city, I will be utterly speechless. Thomas should look to trade literally anyone he can, in order to match those salaries, even Marbury, (but preferably not David Lee or Eddy Curry). With Kobe’s league-only no-trade clause and his penchant for the spotlight, the Knicks in NYC would be a dream come true for many.

Someone has to save this franchise. Although the turnaround of the Knicks is inevitable, it would be nice to have it occur during my time left on Earth. If Kobe doesn’t arrive, who knows how many more years it’ll take to see the Knicks in the Finals. Probably a thousand.
